SB Nation Launches New Animated Series “Champion Ship”

SB Nation probably sees all the fun Bleacher Report is having and opted to produce an animated series of its own.

This is CHAMPION SHIP, an all-new animated series about five athletes selected to save Earth from destruction by participating in an intergalactic tournament.  In the year 2017, Earth has received a transmission from outer space. An alien overlord, The All-Powerful Zodd, has demanded Earth’s entry into “The Galactic Tournament of Champions.” An elite team of five athletes, or “Champions,” will represent Earth.

So yes, the premise is more or less a Mortal Kombat (movie) knock off (somewhat typical for a Vox Media brand)…Earth’s best have to fight evil to defend our way of life. However, instead of Johnny Cage or Liu Kang we get a football player, an MMA fighter, a baseball player, a basketball player, and an Olympic gymnast. The team must complete a bunch of mundane challenges or we, Earth, will be destroyed.
