Review: Marvel Funko Presents: Cosmic Sleigh Ride
Star-Lord takes Baby Groot tobogganing!
Overview (Spoilers):
This 90-second short opens with Star-Lord and his little buddy, Baby Groot escaping a fortress on top of a frosty mountain. They hop on a sled to make a quick get-away from their enemy, Taserface (what kind of name is Taserface?). A shot of The Collector shows there is a hefty bounty on Baby Groot, and Taserface is set on cashing in. A classic cartoon style sleigh race proceeds, complete with traditional spot-swapping, and cliff jumps. The end has Taserface lodged high up in a tree, and our heroes dance it off, the Guardians style we have come to love.
Our Take:
Anything involving Baby Groot is instant gold. This short clip delivers much of the innocent and snarky attributes of the character we love. Plus, anytime I see Taserface, I cannot help but laugh thanks to Rocket’s unremorseful mockery; good choice for the villain. The race down the mountain feels much like an homage to classic cartoons, and with that comes a nostalgic respect. The best part of the whole scene is easily the adorable dance-off between Groot and Star-Lord. Easily my new favourite clip that Marvel Funko has presented. It left me wishing there was a whole series of Funko Baby Groot getting into things and causing trouble for the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
