English Dub Review: Star Blazers “Escape from the Jupiter Sphere”

Is that still 30 Seconds to Mars?

Overview

The Gamilian are threatening, but they may not want any of this. After some engine troubles as a result of a space warp, Captain Okita and his crew land on a floating continent and collect samples, learning that the island is, in fact, terming with Gamilian. Their answer? Obliteration. After destroying three attacking ships, we get to see the Wave Motion Cannon used on the continent.

Our Take

Perhaps a timely episode that teaches a tale about having immense military power and weaponry that may not be always in the best hands. The visual direction of this week’s episode was on par with anything on TV or streaming today, and this series is supposed to be dated! And, the space warp bit was particularly impressive. Brian Mathis as Okita is starting to warm up a bit for me, but I’m not quite sold on anyone’s vocal deliveries just yet, but it’s a 26 episode series, so I’m sure I’ll learn to love ’em.
