Review: THE ROBOT CHICKEN WALKING DEAD SPECIAL: LOOK WHO’S WALKING
JUST LOOK!
Robot Chicken has literally lampooned every movie and TV franchise it seems which makes for limitless possibilities and why the show is getting ready to kick off a ninth season. Iconic horror icons like the Xenomorphs from Aliens or the Yautja from Predator have been put in rambunctious situations that leave us laughing our asses off on a consistent basis no matter what. This success has translated into Stoopid Buddy Stoodios since producing animated spoofs of such venerable franchises as Star Wars, Justice League, and others and has attained considerable critical acclaim. What’s best about those specials? You really don’t have to be a fan of anything to get a rise out of yourself. Does it help? Yes. But, it would be near impossible to familiarize yourself with EVERYTHING that Robot Chicken lampoons. Half the fun is just sitting back and enjoying the trip.
For fans of The Walking Dead, congratulations, you have your first animated spoof. For people like me who could care less about The Walking Dead, there’s still oodles here that any Robot Chicken fan will enjoy. Familiar faces from The Walking Dead franchise past and present make cameo appearances throughout the episode in ways that you wouldn’t imagine, like Michael Rooker singing or Dwight going on about his penis or Rick messing around with the fabled unicorn.
Again, making an animated spoof of a live-action franchise that has a hardcore crew of fans is gonna have its drawbacks. Repeated use of characters and the obvious number of jokes that would probably be more interesting for the ardent fans of the popular TV franchise are apparent, but overall, Robot Chicken does a good job of making sure that no matter who is watching that they are entertained…that is until the “Talking Dead’ sketch shows up.
SCORE
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
