Comics Review: Rick and Morty #31

You aren’t a Rick and Morty fan unless if you get the comics.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

If Vacation were given the Rick and Morty twist, issue #31is what I’d expect to be the result. The issue kicks off with the family arguing over where they just went on vacation and what could’ve been better available options until they are abducted by aliens and held hostage on a spaceship. But, with the combined powers of teamwork and not bickering, the Smith clan are able to come together and escape the confines of the ship and head to a way more suitable vacation spot.

“The Rick Identity Part One”

Imagine if Rick decided to just switch the minds of Jerry, Morty, and Summer…I’ll wait.

Our Take

This month’s issue of Rick and Morty may have had some derivative elements and I can’t stand censors on dialogue, but overall #31 is strong. For starters, the variant covers are pretty badass, and the art direction for the aliens in the first strip was by far the coolest part of the book. Instead of going nuts on past Rick and Morty species or even in that ilk, we got a very “throwback” take on both the UFO and the aliens that made for a very entertaining clash of worlds. The plot was kind of typical, but with some fun “a-ha!” moments are thrown in there for good measure.

The Rick Identity sounds like it could be a fun idea, but me-self wonders if it will step on any of the toes of the Rick and Morty Season Three finale arc with Beth and Jerry. Only one way to find out!
