English Dub Review: Lastman “Yellow Brain”

Yeah they were all yellow

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Richard and Howard team up with a local detective to investigate the spread of some sort of pathogen that turns people into zombies with yellow brains. They eventually find and defeat the source but not before the detective is sent to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Chubs and Siri have to visit the fat man to help get Richard signed up for the boxing commission for the big fight whereby the winner gets the gold cup from last week’s episode.

Our Take

This week’s episode would probably be best classified as a “filler” episode, similar to the standard variety that we get in most anime. As of now, it’s unknown what, if any, importance that the yellow brain pathogen has in terms the overall plot of the series. I couldn’t help but think some of the elements were a tad borrowed from Am I Legend or Resident Evil, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t have a good time with the action scenes. Granted, the scenes were kinda short, but they were still pretty cool.

Chubs probably had some of the best and most heartfelt scenes of the episode. His importance is starting to show up quite a bit and even displayed a sort of “superpower” of being able to tug at the heartstrings of whoever regardless of their brevity.

The character designs for all of the bad guys in the sewer this time around seemed largely inspired and rather bland in execution but using the gunshots to illuminate the tunnels during a gun battle were very well done.

Solid episode, just nothing stellar.
