Spoilers Below:

“Neptune Noir”

Neptune is a private detective musing to himself when Cinder walks in for a job. He’s incredibly attracted to her, something she finds out when his internal dialogue becomes audible. She asks him to find the Fall Maiden, and he accepts– for a kiss. Cinder is incredibly uncomfortable, and the door bursts open to reveal another detective– Zwei. Seeing that it can’t possibly be any worse, Cinder chooses to go with Zwei for the job instead. Sun, playing the background saxophone, tells him not to worry– it’s Chibitown.

Score:

6/10

“Man Up With Port”

Port stars in an infomercial, inspiring people to shape up. He says that he’s going to show people how to build a fort with a tree and his bare teeth. Before he can begin, Winter walks into the background and constructs a fort of ice with her abilities. Port admits that’s one way to do it, but she’s probably going to end up being pretty chilly.

Score:

3/10

“Tai’s Tech Vlog”

Inspired by the recent trends, Taiyang makes a vlog. He’s not sure what he’s supposed to be doing, but before he can get very far, he breaks his camera. On the second try, he attaches the camera to Zwei, but that goes awry when Zwei runs away. The third time, he attaches the camera to a drone, but a bird collides with it in midair. The bird falls to the ground and is revealed to be Qrow. Panicked, Taiyang grabs his equipment and runs.

Score:

3/10

A better collection this time around. The noir parody is a particularly funny one, considering how it makes fun of classic genre tropes. The beautiful woman, the background music, the internal dialogue; all these tropes end up being played with. The classic dialogue that noir is known for, including the detective’s judgments of character, are suddenly audible, making the situation more awkward and tense. It’s a fun parody, especially for mystery fans.
