Review: RWBY Chibi “Evil Genius”
This episode was 4 mins and 32 seconds with zero promo ads.
Spoilers Below:
“Dangerous Quests”
Ozpin says he should probably feel guilty about sending students on dangerous missions but quickly talks himself back on that. Ren comes hurtling out of the forest, having retrieved Oz’s house keys. He points out that they’re just keys, not the mystical artifact Oz said they were, but Oz pays it no mind. Ruby arrives next, with her cloak on fire, having retrieved a scroll: Oz’s tablet. Oz looks through it, and realizes that he has yet to delete the photos from the ‘faculty costume party’. He deletes them right away. Ruby realizes that he’s just sending them on missions to find stuff he misplaced.
Lastly is Jaune, who gives Oz back his glasses, which he’d lost in the couch. The three kids call him out, but he manages to run away. Ruby confides in them that she secretly copied the photos.
Score:
7/10
“Tune-Up”
It’s Weapons Tune-Up Day, and all the kids are modifying their weapons and making sure they’re up to standard. All of them are working hard, except for Jaune, who’s just hitting his sword with an inflatable hammer.
Score:
5/10
“Evil Genius”
Roman unveils his newest invention: a death ray. Before he can use it, it blows up. He shows off his next invention, the brain scrambler. It ends up scrambling his brain, not the victims. His third invention is a robotic glove that also comes with Wifi. However, the wifi ends up draining the battery so fast, it becomes unusable. All the while, Neo remains unimpressed. She suggests that they get froyo instead.
Just as Roman is about to eat it, the fro-yo falls off his cone and onto the sidewalk. He moans about things never going his way, and Neo helps him away. Afterward, Ruby ends up slipping on the fallen fro-yo and hurts her back.
Score:
6/10
RWBY Chibi has been shaping up to be fun these days. None of the skits were particularly bad this time around. They were fun and earned a chuckle. Dangerous Quests takes the spot for best skit because it neatly parodies the main series. At the end of the day, Oz is sending children out on dangerous missions, and he never really explains his actions. To have the kids fetch items that he misplaced is a fun twist on the idea.
The only criticism I had was that the fro-yo Ruby slipped on looked more like a solid sunnyside up egg, not melted fro-yo.
Worst Short: Tune-Up
Best Short: Dangerous Quests
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
