English Dub Review: Seven Mortal Sins “Ye Abandon All Hope”
We lost hope a long time ago, don’t worry about that.
After all the build-up and with all the members of the Mortal Sins defeated other than Vanity we’re finally on the home stretch of the show and speeding towards its conclusion. It’s been a fluctuating ride all things considered but it’s been enjoyable in an odd sense. Today’s episode focused mainly on Lucifer and how she pulls in her followers so that she can make her way through hell. She faces off with Kharon the ferryman of hell, which in this show is off coursed depicted as a pervy old man with tentacles for a tongue and the mortal sins kind of stand-off to the side waiting for Vanity and Lucifer to sort out their whole beef.
Taking an honest look at everything I enjoyed the visualization of Lucifer condemning humans for the sin of pride as I have enjoyed the visualization of all the Mortal Sins. What felt very out of place was all the quote “sexier scenes.” Sexual interests fluctuate from person to person obviously but I find Seven Mortal Sins frames 60-70% of its sexier moments in the most unappealing way possible. Ye Abandon All Hope has just really become the crowning achievement of that having the Knaron tentacle molesting scene, the purple hand groping torture of Maria and the torture of Wrath where Vanity strung her up and sat on her stomach.
Wrath’s torture on a side note made me feel a lot sorrier for her than ANY of Lucifer’s torture scenes but that’s mostly due to how frequently she gets her ass handed to her. It’s just this episode she had her humiliating moment with a naked boat man licking her with tentacles. I know I am harping on that point but it’s just a testament to how jarring the whole scene felt in the grander context of a show that shows more panty and boobs shots than an actual porno. Other than that, and the great visualization of pride a big point for this episode is that it finally explains what in the actual hell is going on. Albeit in a very glossed over fashion that should hopefully lead to more details in the next episode.
Basically, the grand plan behind the scenes is that God is sick of humans sinning so she put Vanity in charge of just pulling as many sinful people into hell as possible. Lucifer threw up an objection to this, citing the pointlessness of the feat as humans always find new ways of sinning so she was cast from heaven. So now Lucifer reveals her plan to flip heaven and hell on its head so the world is a ball of sin I guess. I’m not too sure what the actually means, judging on her character and actions it should mean maybe the world where people just indulge in sin with no care for judging one another.
On one hand, I am glad the show finally explained itself, on the other that plan of Lucifer’s seems equally as evil as god’s so it’s more of a question of who’s evil the viewer can tolerate. God’s or Lucifer’s? But thankfully this is not the sort of show that is asking such philosophical questions. It’s a show so dumb and shameless with its tits and ass in this episode where Levi and Melancholy are gonna face off to fight in the end, wearing clothing that covers more of their skin, the scene cuts away to a bunch of innocuous skulls on pointy balls as they scream and attack each other. What sort of final scene to end the episode on is that? You are supposed to frame these sorts of things so it pumps viewers up to see what happens next. But like with sexy moments and this episode in general, Seven Mortal Sins constantly fumbles in spectacularly inept ways.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
