Comics Review: Adventure Time #65
The contest comes to a close.
Spoilers Below:
The Princess Contest continues with a parade, presenting each princess on their respective float. The crowd goes wild, and Marceline wonders where her phone is. Back in the Ice Kingdom, Finn and Jake fight with legions of penguins and ice robots. They free someone from a cage, saying how they need to get back to the competition. The prisoner asks what competition, and the two are shocked.
The last challenge is a hard one— they each have to name which princess should be eliminated. Flame Princess and Hot Dog Princess both choose LSP, on the grounds that she’s not even a princess. LSP refuses to answer, and Breakfast Princess shocks the crowd by naming Flame Princess because she’s the strongest competition. Flame Princess is furious, and the judges deliberate. Just as they’re about to eliminate LSP, Finn and Jake arrive with Hot Dog Princess.
They reveal that the Hot Dog Princess taking part in the concert is actually the Ice King, and the Ice King is dragged away. With the reveal come to light, LSP stays, leaving Flame Princess, Breakfast Princess and LSP to partake in the final competition: to find Princess Jewel.
Flame Princess and Breakfast Princess look all over, but LSP stays put. She’s approached by a stranger to help finish some chores and agrees to help. After a lot of work, the stranger hands over Princess Jewel, and LSP is declared the winner.
Overview:
Not a very impressive way to conclude the arc. Sure, the Ice King is usually responsible for minor hijinks in the Adventure Time universe, but he came out of nowhere. The entire reveal is based off that it has to be the Ice King, which is poor. How did he fit into the disguise as Hot Dog Princess if they’re both incredibly different sizes? It’s never stated.
LSP winning the competition because she helped the crown bearer out was nice, but she wasn’t even supposed to be in the competition, to begin with. Her stories tend to be hit or misses, and this one seemed to be entirely amiss. Ambition is good to force your way into a contest, but not you get annoyed with the result? Who knows.
By the way, what happened to the goo? Nobody knows because it was never addressed.
The princess contest was fun, but the reveal was incredibly flat, and LSP’s victory wasn’t very fun. A dull end to a potentially interesting story.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
