English Dub Season Review: Koro Sensei Quest Season One

Does Japanese humor translate well here in America?

The parody series is beginning to really take off here in America, and someone in Japan must’ve recognized this before the production of Koro-Sensei Quest. With shows here in America like Angie Tribeca, Children’s Hospital, and a slew of other programming, the spoof is a strong asset in comedic television.

In this case, Koro-Sensei Quest is a chibi spoof/paradoxical look at anime featuring one of the more popular anime franchise characters in the last five years, The Big Bad, Korosensei himself. Shots are fired from the principle cast of Assassination Classroom at established franchises like DBZ, One Piece, and others along with anime conventions that have become standard fare like the filler episode, the flashbacks, the souped-up special moves, and everything in between.

Unfortunately, the series doesn’t really keep you wanting coming back for more. With there being no plot, nothing is inspiring anyone to really stick around for all 12 episodes. At best, KSQ is the franchise that you watch a few episodes with your anime pals, discuss how silly it is, then go back to watching better spoofs of anime as done by say South Park.
