Archer: H.Jon Benjamin On Where The Franchise Goes From Here

And why the art department needs a better appreciation from the media masses.

Tomorrow night, we will officially be halfway complete on the eighth season of Archer: Dreamland and we recently had a phone chat with the show’s titular star H. Jon Benjamin. Over the course of the call, Jon spoke fondly of his time on Archer showing a real love and appreciation for both his character and the cast & crew that he’s been working with for the better part of a decade.

As a result, even with Adam Reed noting in previous interviews that he wants to wrap Archer after the show’s tenth season, H.Jon Benjamin would love to see the franchise continue in other respects be it films, games, etc.:

Adam constructs the show as far as writing goes and concepts and path the show takes, so it’s really up to him. I’m always up to doing another season of Archer, but while there’s been talk of a movie, I hope it comes to fruition after the show.  I think we can get some North Korean financing in place.

I asked Jon what he thinks are some of the features of Archer that have since come a long way whether it’d be the voices, the growth of the characters, etc. Jon wanted to note that he has been speaking out publicly about the art direction of Archer and made special note of all the hard working people that bring us the multi-Emmy nominated series:

The art direction is one of the most integral component show from the beginning. I’ve been on a lot of shows where they’ve done a lot less like Dr. Katz Profesweren’t Therapist that weren’t going for the most beautiful or grandest series with the Squigglevision. I’m glad you brought it up, (Archer’s art direction) it’s an underappreciated part of the series. It’s a really beautiful part of the show, and the new book is really cool and it shows how important the aesthetic is to the show and the people who work on it that make it amazing.

Finally, with back-to-back near sold out Bob’s Burgers Live! shows coming in June at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, I asked about the possibility of bringing the Archer cast and crew out for another round of dates for THEIR live shindigs. Unfortunately, it sounds like everyone’s a bit tapped out at the moment:

A lot of people are too busy for Archer Live, Parnell just had a baby, Aisha has like 11 TV shows, though I think we should do more before the show wraps. It was a good excuse for public drunked-ness.

Archer is all-new Wednesday Night @ 10pm ET/PT on FXX, check your local listings
