Review: Steven Universe “Gem Heist”
A heist!
Spoilers Below
Now that Steven and the Gems have arrived at Pink Diamond’s human zoo, they have to figure out how to get Greg back. Unfortunately, there are two Amethysts guarding the door. Sapphire saves the day with the perfect plan. She will bring Steven as an offering to the zoo. As such, Ruby will be her guard, Pearl will be her servant, and Amethyst will be there for extra muscle.
The guard Amethysts begin to tell them that the zoo is shut down but they are quickly cut off by Holly Blue Agate. Holly runs the zoo for Blue Diamond. She is thrilled to have a Sapphire bring them an offering. Sapphire is able to use this excitement to get a tour of the zoo. Sadly, Amethyst is forced to stay behind to guard the door.
Holly shows her true colors as she gives the rest of the group a tour of the facilities. She frequently talks down to Pearl, since Pearls are nothing more than servants on Homeworld. When they reach the door to the zoo, Sapphire gets Holly away from the rest of the group by pretending Ruby left the warp drive on in the spaceship. She takes Holly to turn it off so the others can try to get inside to find Greg. But Pearl can’t open the door and neither Ruby nor Steven can break it open.
Sapphire and Holly return to find footprints all over the zoo door. Holly blames the Amethysts. Just then, her two Amethyst guards appear to tell her that Blue Diamond is coming back. The Gems begin to panic as Steven is tossed into the zoo. He slides along on a conveyor belt, getting tested along the way. Once his clothes are changed and his statistics have been documented, his chamber fills with water. The floor opens beneath him and he is sucked into a beautiful new area. Steven crawls onto the land and sees Greg nearby with some pretty ladies.
At the end of the last episode, I was afraid that the zoo would be a broken down mess and that Greg would be in trouble. On the contrary, the zoo seems to be in pretty good shape. Granted, Holly isn’t a very nice Gem. She spends the entire episode talking down to everyone except Sapphire. And is only because Sapphire was on Blue Diamond’s court. If Sapphire was a regular Gem, she would get the same treatment. It will be interesting to see if Blue Diamond remembers her and what will happen if she does.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
