Netflix Announces “Castlevania” Animated Series for 2017

Apparently, this thing’s gonna be violent af.

The details are quite vague at this point but later this year, we’ll get the chance to watch somebody from the Castlevania storyline brought to life in live-action or animated form.

Netflix held an event today where they announced the bulk of its upcoming programming slate. Discovered in the press release was this:

“Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017”

This is where the vagueness of that announcement stems from but it’s easy to assume that the project is the very same one that’s been reported as being in development from Frederator Networks ( Adventure Time / Fairly OddParents) for two years with producer Adi Shankar.

On an episode of the Nick Animation podcast late last year, Seibert said that Frederator was ramping up on an unnamed video game project. His words from his 2015 Slashfilm interview:

“We have a project right now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed, based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years, that we’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started. But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going.” Prior to that, Shankar had said he’d be doing work on a Castlevania series with Seibert.

Update: Shankar has also confirmed that renowned Comic & Graphic Novel writer Warren Ellis will be the writer for both seasons of Castlevania. Ellis is likely best known for his critically acclaimed graphic novels The AuthorityTransmetropolitan, and  Planetary.

Sounds like a winning combination if you ask me. 🙂
