Ghost in the Shell Super Bowl Spot Released Early

Dear God, we hope this is gonna be good.

Set for a release in theaters on March 31, 2017, Ghost in the Shell stars Scarlett Johansson and is based on the famous Kodansha Comics manga series of the same name by Masamune Shirow.

Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, a spec-ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose primary goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

In a recent interview with Collider, Johansson had this to say about it:

“I think when you have a character that’s so beloved, people have a lot of opinions,” she said. “I try to kind of clean the slate and really follow my instincts with the character and hope that I give the character as much integrity as people expect. Bringing these pages to life is a kind of challenge. Because you can’t rip it off the page, it’s totally different. You’re playing it as a–it’s not really a person, but it’s a human brain, it’s someone who’s having this life experience. Which is very different from just ripping stuff off from the manga.”

With Hollywood’s track record, the special effects could be it’s only saving grace since they rarely make good live action adaptations based on a game or anime right?
