NBC Wants to see the “Top Puppet” Act for Reality Special

Break out yo’ socks!

Think you’ve got a puppet act that would blow the pants off of Jeff Dunham of Terry Fator? Well, you may have a shot on NBC! From the producers of The Voice, The Muppets, and Craig Ferguson comes a brand-new reality special called Top Puppet:

The purpose of Top Puppet is simple…to find the next great puppet act. According to Deadline.com, in Top Puppet, competitors will battle it out in front of a live studio audience and three judges who will seek originality. The goal is to feature the full spectrum of puppeteering on the show — from hand puppets to giant walkers, marionettes to humanettes, ventriloquists to singing hand puppets — with acts as grand as the spectacle of The Lion King or realistic as War Horse or simple as sock puppets.

I remember a few months back on The Howard Stern Show mentioning that he turned down a really cool TV gig, and I’m wondering if this was it because before Paul Zerdin won in Season 10, Howard was pushing him every week until he was the victor.

Still, though, the show sounds really great and shows that NBC loves the art form of puppetry. The network featured a Jeff Dunham special not too long ago and has been flirting with green-lighting a full series about puppets. The Muppets didn’t end up working on ABC but maybe a reality show, that will certainly showcase the different varieties to a HUGE audience, can help out.

Top Puppet is said to premiere this Summer as a one-off, however, more could come if the ratings are good.
