Comics Review: Simpsons Comics Knockout

We tell you what’s included in this quarter’s trade.

In addition to new editions of the flagship title and on oversized annual, this December also sees the release of a new Simpsons Comics trade. Knockout collects issues #116-#120. This group consists of the capitalism satire “Mall or Nothing,” wacky spy thriller “Sandwiches are Forever,” reality show parody “The Flunky,” father-son issues piece/sports drama “Homer Drops the Ball!,” and ensemble rom-com “The ‘X’ Men.” These stories are longer than the more recent Simpsons Comics, which tend to split up each issue into multiple adventures. This is a fun throwback, though a little exhausting all at once. I recommend spacing out your reading of Knockout, or at least not reading it back-to-back with the latest current issues.

There is not much in the way of special features, just some art of various characters facing off in potential boxing matches. It may be a bummer to see a collection that does not add anything extra, but that is sometimes is just a fact of life.
