Carrie Fisher to be in two more “Family Guy” episodes…but what then? Our thoughts on “Angela’s” future.

Time to address the future of Family Guy following the loss of a princess.

Despite the fact that Carrie Fisher had passed away this week, she’s still leaving behind her a breadth of work that has yet to air. This includes Star Wars Episode VIII which had already completely wrapped filming, and of course Family Guy which begins production up to nine months in advance of its premiere.

As it turns out, two upcoming episodes of Family Guy will feature Carrie’s voice role of “Angela” and both will air in 2017. It is unknown as to how much of Angela we’re gonna see, but she’s coming. However, this begs the question, what do we do with the Angela character moving forward?

What I DON’T foresee happening, is any sort of a recasting.  In prior instances of Family Guy cast members dying, typically the characters are just written out of future Family Guy episodes with one of the most recent examples being “Mom’s the Word” when Peter’s mother “Thelma” was officially announced dead following the death of her real-life voice counterpart Phyllis Diller. Given that Angela had no direct familial ties to Peter other than being his boss, it’s possible that the producers do a brief mention or even give Peter an entirely new career altogether so as to avoid the situation.

Show creator Seth MacFarlane did have a beautiful sendoff for his former cast member:

Family Guy is due to return with new episodes on FOX early next year, check your local listings.
