Review: Marvel’s ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN VS. The Sinister 6 “Return to the Spider-Verse – Part 2”

Love pirates and Westerns? How about all in the same half-hour?

Spoilers Below

Spider-Man and Miles kick off Part two in a Spider-Verse inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean complete with a Spider-Pirate named “Web Beard”. Turns out, Web Beard was mutinied by his Guardians of the Galaxy crew consisting of Cosmo, Rocket, Howard the Duck, and a big ol’ Groot ship. It takes some doing, but Spider-Man and Miles convince the ship mates to make amends with Web Beard during the course of a big battle with a Kracken. We get a piece of the Seige of Perilous and head to another world..

A WESTERN world! Are you a fan of John Wayne? Well, how about a Cowboy-inspired Spider-Man that’s kind of a pussy when it comes to fights? It’s in this Verse where we have to do battle with Doc Ock Holiday whom has former town Sheriff Ben Parker as his slave. Our native “Webslinger” does come in handy when Peter and Miles are thrown in jail, but other than that, he’s largely devoid of wanting to take part in a fight. But, it’s up to Spider-Man to battle a WAY more correct Doc Ock (when compared to his Ultimate Spider-Man doppleganger) that allows him to free Ben Parker, and get another piece of the Siege of Perilous.

Our Take

There was definitely more to like in this week’s episode than to hate. The Guardians of the Galaxy cross-over was a lot of fun, but I would have liked to have seen how the non-animalistic characters would have fared in this verse. Kudos to the producers of the show in getting Seth Green to reprise his live-action take as Howard the Duck for this small-screen adaptation.

As for the Western, I was WAY more impressed with this take on Doc Ock than the one that is normally seen in Ultimate Spider-Man vs the Sinister Six. For starters, he looked WAY more accurate as to what Doc Ock looks like, even if I was completely disappointed in this Verse’s Webslinger. By the way, apart from a mere mention, there wasn’t a whole lot of follow in regards to the Wolf Spider so who the hell knows where that guy is at the moment. That’s called a plot hole, kids! Other than that, a rather solid week of Ultimate Spider-Man.
