Review: Steven Universe “Gem Hunt”
Did we collect ’em all?
Spoilers Below
Now that Connie has trained with Pearl for awhile, she’s allowed to join Steven and Pearl on a mission. They are going to find a corrupted gem that Garnet sensed. When they finally come upon the corrupted gem, they find that there are two of them, not just one. Connie suggests they split up. She will go one way with Steven while Pearl goes the other. Luckily, Steven brought walkie talkies so they can keep in touch.
After wandering around for awhile, Steven and Connie find one of the corrupted gems. They try to fight it but find they are not match for the beast. Connie calls Pearl to help. Before Pearl can reach them, Jasper jumps in and steals the gem from the monster. Pearl arrives in time to confront Jasper, but Jasper just runs away. At first, Connie is sad that she wasn’t strong enough to fight the corrupted gem by herself. Pearl points out that she was never meant to fight the gem. She was supposed to call Pearl and she did. In Pearl’s mind, Connie was a success.
But what about the two corrupted gems that Jasper took….
Booooring. This was such a boring episode. Almost the entire episode was taken up by Steven and Connie talking as they walked around with some quips thrown in by walkie talkie Pearl. I know that this is just a set up for the 100th episode coming up later this week but, man, couldn’t they have done this better? It’s already been established that Connie is training with Pearl. Did we really need an entire episode devoted to showing she isn’t quite ready to fight on her own? There better be some good payoff coming soon.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
