Review: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse “Mickey’s Sport-Y-Thon”
Does Mickey score?
Spoilers Below
The summer Olympics have ended. Now it is time for Mickey Mouse to have his version of the sports competition. Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, and Pluto are joined by Martian Mickey, Martian Minnie, and Pluto from Pluto. Yes, space aliens came to the Clubhouse to play Earth sports. Goofy is the referee, while poor Donald has been relegated to announcer status with Pete.
Clarabelle opens the games with a song promising that everyone will play fairly. The first game the gang plays is basketball. It is Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Martian Minnie against a group of robotic hands. Martian Minnie tries to use her jetpack to get past the hands but Goofy stops her. Mickey and Minnie have to explain that it’s unfair to use the jetpack because no one else has one. The alien mouse understands and the team manages to win the game without cheating. Though Pete tries to play with Martian Minnie’s jetpack, resulting in the gang having to use a badminton net tool to catch the out of control contraption.
Next up is Volley-Bop. Yes, it’s called Volley-Bop and not Volleyball. This time Pluto from Pluto has to learn to let others have a turn to play the game. A pretty easy fix, compared to the others.
The final game is a relay race. Mickey runs the first leg, Daisy swims the second, and Martian Mickey bikes the last. However, the trio has to finish the race before the sand runs out of the hourglass. But there is no sand in the glass and there are golf balls in the nearest supply of sand. Goofy uses the tennis racket to sieve the balls out of the sand. Then, while Mickey is running his portion of the race, he runs off-course, trips, and ends up in a tree. Now Minnie has to use the special baseball mitt tool to help Mickey out of his predicament. Daisy swims her leg with no problem, but Martian Minnie feels the need to sing a song to cheer her on. Martian Mickey gets part of the way through his leg before he gives up because the hill is too difficult. Goofy (the referee) steps in to give him a rousing speech about not giving up. Martian Mickey finishes his leg in the nick of time.
But, wait, isn’t there still one more tool to use? Yes, there is. Pete, who has been very annoying through this entire episode, flew the announcer’s hot air balloon into a tree so it sprung a leak. The gang uses the soccer ball tool to plug up the hole. I don’t understand it either.
While I understand that the Olympics are a big deal, this episode felt so demeaning. The main lesson here was to play fair, not cheat, and be kind to other players. It had little to do with the actual sports. Not to mention that the Martian characters were annoying. Both Donald Duck and Pete are classic “villains” in the Disney world. They could have easily used either of these characters as the reason the “Be Good” lessons had to be taught. Instead, these two were stuck in a hot air balloon and Pete didn’t even let Donald talk! Episodes like this make me glad that my daughter has out grown this show.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
