CW Seed Orders 2nd DC Animated Series
This is more important than just social issues.
I love this because CW Seed is clearly seeing the value of adult animation that isn’t necessarily comedy. With the second season of Vixen coming this Fall, the streaming network has picked up ANOTHER animated series inspired by a DC Comics hero, this one Freedom Fighters: The Ray.
The 2017 series is headed by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, both of whom are adapting the Grant Morrison deal.
Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.
Our Take
A lot of people are making a big deal about the lead character being gay being the thing to celebrate…which it is. But, for my money, I think CW is taking notes on the success of Vixen and the recent success of Batman: The Killing Joke. Older-skewing animation that isn’t comedy can work…CW Seed is leading the charge in proving that.

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
