Review: Steven Universe “Monster Reunion”

When MC Bear Bear gets a tear, Steven gives him a loving kiss. That magically heals him! Yes, Steven’s healing powers are back! He rushes off to tell the Gems but Pearl won’t let him touch the plate he broke to prove his powers to them. Immediately, Garnet knows that Steven wants to heal the broken Gems in the bubble room.

He has Amethyst release Centipeetle first. Unfortunately, his healing powers can’t fully heal her. She’s mostly back but not all the way. Garnet and Amethyst want to put her back in a bubble. Steven insists she stay free so he can try to fix her. When he brings Centipeetle back to his room, he finds out that they can’t talk. So he brings out some paper and crayons. Centipeetle draws her entire story for Steven.

Her story is a sad one. She was the captain of a ship that was ordered to come to earth. As they fought in the Gem War, Centipeetle became separated from her crew. When they were ordered to retreat, she didn’t make it back to the ship and the diamonds corrupted her.

Suddenly, Centipeetle starts regressing. She tries to rush out of Steven’s room but can’t get out. Steven helps her teleport to her ship. She has trouble trying to get inside so Steven helps her again. Once inside, they find the crew of her ship. She is finally home. The other Gems show up to congratulate Steven for a job well done.

This was probably one of the sweetest Steven Universe episodes ever. All Steven wants to do is help everyone. He doesn’t get a lot of chance to actually help though. Or when he does help, it goes very wrong. This time, Steven helps and manages to accomplish his goal. Steven saved someone. I hope he gets the chance to help other Gems become whole again.
