Review: Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu “My Dinner with Nadakhan”

More like an appetizer.

Spoilers Below

Jay is held captive on Misfortune’s Keep where he’s basically being tortured by Nadakhan over his final wish. Jay has dinner with Nadakhan, and we learn that if a Djinn Prince marries on Djinn Land, the prince will get infinite wishes. Jay attempts to tell Flintlocke, but Nadakhan thinks he’s full of shit, as a result, the first-mate believes him, so they decide to put Jay in a dangerous game: Scrap ‘n’ Tap. The winner gets to tap out. Nadakhan keeps trying to convince Jay to ‘wish it all away’, but Jay declines, despite losing to two members of the crew. After the game, Jay appears to have the shit kicked out of him and is locked in a hole. Clancee actually gives the ninja some food and an eyepatch so as to look like a pirate. Jay then realizes that part of his future was coming together. Eventually, Flintlocke comes in and gives Jay the key. Jay escapes into Nadakhan’s room and finds a fake Djinn Blade, so yea, he was setup again by the Pirates.

Meanwhile, Lloyd, Nya and Cole are stuck on Tiger Widow Island, with no way to get off, so they decide to build a raft to get off. Soon enough, the Police Commissioner, two detectives, and Ronin save Nya, Lloyd and Cole from Tiger Widow Island. The commissioner admits he was wrong to arrest the ninja and then Ronin reveals that Jay sent a message, and set they off to save him.

Our Take

I’ll be honest, the dinner scene was maybe 5 seconds of the entire episode. The bulk of today’s premise was Jay getting tortured, to which, I wish we would’ve seen more of. I really did think that Flintlocke was going to help Jay, same with the Clancee, but I guess those guys are just plain ol’ tricksters. There wasn’t much to the other Ninjago members being stuck on the island, and I’m not even sure why they were building a raft in the first place, but the sandworms looked STRAIGHT out of Beetlejuice.

It will be interesting to see if any of the pirates eventually side with Jay. But, I’m starting to think that the number of Ninjago is starting to take away from the story. When you’ve got too many mouths to feed, you run out of food.
