Comedy Central Africa’s first African-produced series for adults is shaping up strong.

My Child: Teenage Mutant Azanians adds Salvado, Uganda’stop comedian, to its already bourgeoning cast of comedic talents.

Hot on the heels of Zimbabwe’s top comedian Carl Joshua Ncube,Uganda’s top comedian Salvado has joined the My Child: Teenage Mutant Azanians team.  The man who once worked as a telecommunications engineer has experienced a meteoric rise in the 7 short years since he placed runner-up in MNET’s Standup Uganda in 2009.  Salvado is now considered one of the preeminent names in East African comedy confirmed by the Male Comedian of the Year award that he won at the Uganda Entertainment Awards in October 2015.

Salvado met My Child: Teenage Mutant Azanians exec-producer,Nick Wilson, backstage at the Comedy Central International Comedy Festival in December 2015.  Salvado performed in The Best Of Africa Lineup, whilst the pilot of My Child: Teenage Mutant Azanians was premiered live at the festival as part of a mixed media event featuring the standup comedy of the prominent comedians in the voice cast- Richelieu Beaunoir, Nina Hastie,Griffy 2Trillion (US), Mpho Popps and host Trevor Gumbi.  The 2 struck up a conversation, exchanged details and committed to finding a way to work together in the future.

Nick Wilson said of their meeting; “Salvado is, apart from being crazy-hilarious, an incredibly talented guy.  Hearing about his philanthropy in his home country (he has opened a school for 10 children) and what he is doing in rebranding Africa, I was really inspired to work with him.”

The live premiere of My Child: Teenage Mutant Azanians at theComedy Central International Comedy Festival and the subsequent broadcast on Comedy Central Africa, represents the first ever half-hour of adult animated comedy to have been produced for an African audience. Wilson continued; “In its current guise, My Child: Teenage Mutant Azanians has a South African skew.  The additions of Carl Joshua Ncube and Salvado to the team is part of a bigger strategy.  We intend to develop and produce the first Pan-African adult animated comedy series. We will achieve this by expanding our universe of characters.  Carl and Salvado will assist us in developing authentic Zimbabwean and Ugandan characters which will resonate with audiences in their home countries and we believe this will go a long way in dispelling stereotypes and myths about the African continent.”

Salvado, a massive fan of adult animated comedy series, had the following to say about his addition to the My Child: Teenage Mutant Azanians team: “To be part of the first ever adult animated comedy series in Africa is not just a dream come true, it’s everything coming true.  I’m super excited about this and looking forward to adding an East African touch to it!”
