Comics Review: Rick and Morty #15
We close out the month with some Rick and Morty!
Spoilers Below
Rick takes Jerry and Morty to another planet to show the Earthlings the REAL meaning of sports. Instead of football, Jerry is treated to watching what is essentially gladiatorial games featuring offspring of degenerate gamblers. Jerry isn’t impressed, so he heads on over to a machine to just randomly bet on whomever is going to win. It doesn’t take long before Jerry is sought by a high roller whom convinces Jerry to cut him in on the winnings.
Soon enough, Rick does the inevitable and decides to enter Morty in to a fight to the death. If Morty wins, he lives as does Jerry whom unknowingly placed a rather large wager on him. If Morty loses, he dies and Rick loses a bet. Fortunately, Rick fits Morty with a hat that gives the kid strength he never knew he had, and allows him to provide a clean sweep of his opponents. Everyone heads home relatively unscathed, though there’s bound to be some mental scars for the near future.
Our Take
First thing’s first, the aesthetic of this month’s issue of Rick and Morty should be applauded. Certainly showcasing the flexibility that is being a comic, fans of the animated series may be a bit perturbed by the slightly rougher take on the characters, but for me, I rather enjoyed them! Everything came across more hand-drawn than what you might see in say Marvel or DC Comics nowadays, and the issue is better for it. The premise is rather run-of-the-mill, but overall a solid read that should help stave off your uncle’s boring war stories at hte July 4th BBQ’s.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
