Spitting Image team unveil new animation channel
A new animated online channel has been unveiled which uses state-of-the-art animation to digitally manipulate 3D caricature models and promises a biting look at the world of deluded politicians and celebrity – their first show casts a sharp eye over talent TV shows and features Simon Cowell, Kanye West, David Cameron and Donald Trump
It’s 20 years since Spitting Image stopped digging at the powers that be, and now some of them have teamed up with young blood talent to create WONKchannel, a new YouTube channel featuring sketches and shows like Britain Seeks Attention, a talent contest in which celebrity judges Simon Cowell, Kanye West and Kate Middleton cast a sharp-ish eye over guests including David Cameron, Donald Trump and Boris Johnson who will literally do and say anything for your attention.
Steve Nallon, the voice behind some of Spitting Images most famous characters including Margaret Thatcher and the Queen Mother, provides the voice for David Cameron in the show, the first episode of which you can watch here.
Commenting on the show Steve said: “Margaret Thatcher had a very dynamic way of speaking and the voice had to match the way the puppet looked. David Cameron comes with its own unique challenges; his voice is the PR man bringing tea to the workers.”
Wonk uses state-of-the-art animation to digitally manipulated 3D caricature models, with celebrities egos confined to 2D photoheads and promises a biting look at the world of deluded politicians and celebrity. The shows and sketches are less labour-intensive and expensive to make than Spitting Image which originally cost up to £250,000 per episode in part due to the painstaking task of making the physical puppets.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
