Review: Pocket Mortys (iOS/Android)

The mobile game Pocket Mortys for iOS and Android was released in January by Big Pixel Studios. Basically, there are multiple Ricks in the multiverse, and each can collect and train over 70 different types of Morty, much like in Nintendo’s Pokemon. Then, the Ricks can assemble a team of Mortys and battle against other Ricks.

When I first heard of Pocket Mortys, it sounded like a great idea, and indeed, the game has been well-received by many fans of the Adult Swim show Rick and Morty.

I was surprised at its large size, and before upgrading my phone, I had no room for the game– so hopefully, folks who want to play it have a sizable phone memory or SD card.

The graphics are pretty true to form, but after a while, the game didn’t keep my interest much.  The gameplay is a little clunky and slow, and there is a LOT of reading. However, I know for a fact that there are a lot of people who really liked this game.

I’d say if you’re a huge fan of the show AND of Pokemon, there’s a chance you’ll love this game. But keep in mind, it’s almost exactly like Pokemon. The Rick and Morty Instagram game is pretty good too, although in a limited fashion. It’s only slightly interactive.

I do hope that the Rick and Morty crew come up with better offerings in the future.
