Review: Bob’s Burgers – “Pro Tiki/Con Tiki”

Warren, Bob’s friend from school, randomly calls Bob to let him know that he will be in town. Since Warren is super rich, the kids are excited to meet him. Without bothering to ask Linda, Bob invites Warren to stay at their house. Thankfully, Linda is OK with this.

After trying one of Bob’s burgers, Warren decides to invest in the restaurant. He gives Bob a check for $100,000. Unfortunately, it seems that the money comes with some strings. Warren decides to redecorate the restaurant in a Tiki theme. He brings in Tiki salt and pepper shakers, a Tiki wrap for the bar, and even a pineapple that says Aloha when someone walks past. Bob hates the changes. However, Warren refuses to take back his money. The two get into a small fight before Warren relents. It turns out that he is a little jealous of Bob’s family and wants to be like him. In the end, the two part ways on good terms and Bob turns the restaurant back to normal.

I’m fairly torn on this episode. It was nice to actually see Warren, who Bob talked about in Carpe Museum, but there wasn’t anything stand out in this episode. Maybe if there was a little more ooomph in Bob’s turmoil between wanting Warren’s money but not wanting his Tiki decorations. Most of that turmoil was internal, leaving us with the feeling that Bob was just annoyed by it instead of actually upset. Even the kids were kinda boring this time around. There was a little back and forth between Gene and Louise about being able to sleep in the living room and watch TV after bedtime but it was basically just an agreement between the two. Maybe if Louise tried to be sneaky and steal the living room spot from Gene, it might have been more interesting. As it is, the entire episode was just…blah.
