Review: Animals “Turkeys”

Spoilers Below

Turkeys

A turkey has his wife taken away from him and slaughtered pretty much right in front of him. As a result, this turkey is out for revenge. His target? The mayor. How is he gonna get there? By becoming pardoned for slaughter at the annual parade. Our hero turkey does just that and joins up with the mayor as he floats on down the street waving to people and tossing turkeys into the crowd. It isn’t long before we find out that the mayor is wanted for murder and tries to make a break for it, but the turkey catches up to the son of a bitch and shoots him dead.

Rats

Mike and Phil are once again rats that are supposed to stay underground for fear of the “Demon Giants”, but instead make a pact to go above ground to see everyone in a fit of bravery. The two decide to do some exploring around town and really enjoy the day. Unfortunately, a demon really does show up and scares the two down a sewer.  The duo try to lead a normal life, but are grabbed and brought into an animal testing lab where it appears season two will be based.

Our Take

Overall, a solid finale from Animals and a very good first season to which we will get into more in our season review. However, I gotta say, I think Danny McBride was NOT the right choice for the role of the main turkey. Don’t get me wrong, I love Danny, but I think his style of joke delivery just quite didn’t mesh well with the vengeful undertakings of his character. Jessica Chastain was excellent, but she is in all of her movies, so that’s that.

Our third round of rats was maybe the better of the two stories. Granted we got to see the conclusion of the mayoral saga, but already the lab testing idea for next season sounds like a fabulous idea and I can’t wait to see it. Oh yea, we also get a KILLER montage showcasing all of the animals that we got to see over the show’s first season, so kudos to Mike and Phil for including that.
