Reddit AMA Recap: Amber Nash talks ‘Archer’

Earlier today, Archer voice Amber Nash stopped by to talk all things Pam in the upcoming season. During the course of her session, she answered a whole lot about her favorites and how her character has grown in a number of different aspects for the new season. Check out some highlights below:

Amber really wants a “Pam” spin-off. She was asked if we get to see more of her character’s back story in the upcoming season and she said:

1) Not really this season 🙁 I know, it’s totes my favorite to see stuff from Poovey Farms. I think we just need a spin-off! Let’s make it happen reddit!

On taking over the Twitter account for “Pam”

Writing Pam’s twitter was very daunting at first because I was like, I can’t do this character that is so awesomely written justice, but I got into it and now it’s fun and easy, the hard part is not being redundant. The first batch I ever sent in, our EP said they were too filthy and I was like come on it’s Pam.

On Amber’s favorite aspects of “Pam”

I love that Pam is totally unapologetic. She is body positive, sex positive, stripper positive, she’s just positive. I love that about Pam, I wish I was as badass and no shit taking as Pam was.

On how her character has evolved

I like that she’s not a punching bag anymore, she’s really become some of the heart of the show. I like that she is crazy but will also defend or protect any one of those guys to the death.

On  how Amber as a voice actress has grown into the role of ‘Pam’

 I think it’s because I became more confident in the character and as a voice actor and as Pam got to do more and more cool shit the voice just came along with that.

The line that she couldn’t believe was allowed on TV

Definitely “masturbate til my fingers bleed” I couldn’t believe we got away with that one and what I find most disturbing about it is that your fingers would bleed first, <shudder>

On her favorite story line

I loved Southbound and Down in Season 5 cause it was Pam and Archer having a road trip and being buds, I love Archer and Pam together.

On how much Pam stems from Amber’s personality

A decent amount I think, but you’d probably have to ask Adam. When Pam is first introduced in the pilot she is called “the mousy director of HR” and Pam is so much more now. I think Adam has taken stuff from all of us and knowing us better over the years and let that influence the characters. IRL I’m one of the guys, I have a dirty mouth, I can drive a tractor…

On if Amber gets along with the other cast

My favorite thing might be the cast. We all get along great, it may be because we don’t actually work together, we all record alone, so we only see each other at events. We all got really close when we were doing Archer Live, which I hope comes back. We love to have dinner and drinks and chat and hang and we laugh so much and I always have too much wine and get a little inappropes.

On how Pam compares to doing some of the the Amber roles

Well I think the first thing is that I’m much more experienced now as a voice actor and as Pam so it comes a bit easier with time. Valerie was very much my voice, hooker was fun cause it was a New York accent and then there was Simone and that voice was a character that I developed in improv. Pam originally came from the voice I use when I’m doing my mom.

Favorite Archer episode to record

Oh there are so many. I think my favorite to record was the one that Pam humps that gyro. Is that Honeymooners? Season 4? I wasn’t getting the hump noises right and our EP Matt Thompson (my boss) was like hey watch me and he just humped all over the studio and I made hump noises.
