Review: Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade

DENIS LEARY!

Spring is coming and all of our favorite Ice Age characters are getting ready for the big thaw. In another attempt at owning his own business, Sid decides to start egg-sitting. He will sit on the eggs of all of the very busy mothers in the area. For some reason, about a dozen parents trust him with their eggs. While sleeping the first night, all of the eggs are stolen by Squint, a rabbit who holds a grudge against Manny. All of the parents start to panic but Manny promises to get the eggs back. Squint’s twin brother, Clint, tries to be a good bunny by bringing the gang a map his brother made. Everyone follows the map and gets all of the dyed eggs back.

When the original Ice Age movie came out in 2002, I thought it was clever. Fourteen years, four movies (with another coming later this year), and one Christmas special later, it is a tired franchise. Sure, they have added new characters to the fold but none of them have really grown any. These characters are pretty much the same as they were in the first movie. Sid screws something up, Manny and Diego have to fix it, Ellie is just kinda there for no reason, and Scrat tries his hardest to get all the acorns. This is exactly what happens in this special. Unfortunately, it is so boring. Change it up a little, guys. It’s OK to be a little different once in awhile. We don’t need the exact same plot every single time. You are boring your audience.
