Review: Bordertown “J.C. Strikes” (S1Ep6)

After getting hired as a landscaper by Ernesto, J.C. takes it upon himself to try to change the working conditions. He implements a strike that his new coworkers join. Consequently, when his family and friends desert him for not pulling his own weight, J.C. falls asleep on a park bench and has an epiphany. His solution is to landscape an entire golf course by himself to earn respect. This, of course, turns out horribly because he knows nothing about landscaping. The property owner confronts him to find out why his golf course is a mess. Out of the blue, an endangered bird flies into the screen. With his hands tied, J.C. tells the property owner that his land should be under environmental protection and he will cause trouble for him if he doesn’t rehire Ernesto’s company.
While this was going on, Buck found a way to get raped by an Ostrich. His “spirit animal” was later roasted by his psychotic daughter Gert.

This episode is only full of overplayed stereotypes. There’s hardly any thought-out humor. It’s like Gabriel Iglesias making fat jokes. We get it. You can make fun of yourself. But, you still need to be funny and not rely on cheap jokes. It’s way too far “out there” most of the time. Any extreme angle this show can take, it will. That’s not always a good thing. It needs to be done, but with balance. The story line gets demolished because of some joke that seemingly needed to be said. Then, in return, the end just shows up out of nowhere with some awful transition. I’m going to stop here, because I’m fairly certain you understand I didn’t think it was good.

There’s one or two pity points in there.
