Review: Bob’s Burgers – “Sacred Couch”

Should the Belchers just get a new couch?

The couch in the Belcher household is pretty gross. It’s been there for years. Gene threw up on it, baby Tina chewed on it, and Louise built forts with it. Despite its grossness, Linda wants to keep the couch. But Bob and Louise want to get a new one. So Louise takes a file to the wood. When Linda, Gene, and Tina sit on it, the entire couch collapses. The family heads off to the Sofa Queen, who runs Linda’s favorite commercial, to get a new couch.

Once Linda finally finds one that she likes, she overhears Louise talking about the couch-destroying plan. Distraught, Linda cries her way through the store. It isn’t until Louise gets the Sofa Queen, herself, to talk to Linda that she calms down and agrees to purchase the new couch.

With the couch home, Louise finds herself feeling sorry for the old couch left on the street corner. Giving into her guilt, she asks the family to bring the old couch inside. When they go to get it, someone else has already taken the couch. It’s a group of teenage boys in a band called Couch Burners. The Belchers track them down and get the boys to agree to a trade. The boys get to burn the new couch and the family takes home the old gross couch. Money well spent, I suppose.

Linda and Louise frequently disagree so it’s no surprise that they disagree here too. However, it was bit of a twist to have Louise be so emotional once she saw the lonely couch on the street. Granted, I don’t think I’d want a gross old couch back in my house. The thing had already been splashed by road puddles at least twice, who knows what else happened to it. It will be even more disgusting than it was originally. At least the artists don’t have to remember to draw a new one!
