This week’s new Adventure Time, “The Thin Yellow Line” was a pretty good time– probably better than most of the recent new episodes.

Finn and Jake are coming home from a party and notice someone doing graffiti on the city’s walls. After a chase, they realize the artist was one of the Banana Guards. After talking to Princess Bubblegum, Finn and Jake disguise themselves in order to infiltrate the Banana Guard and find the artist.

There are some really funny things in this episode (Jake’s watch! Ha..) and the whole sequence of Finn and Jake among the guards is relatively hilarious. Jake has an idea of how to find the artist, but it fails, and then Finn accidentally stumbles upon the culprit, and he and Jake end up taking him to face Princess Bubblegum.

The guards revere Bubblegum as some kind of goddess, and we get some backstory into her past and what she may (or may not) have done to members of her kingdom. I have always felt there’s some dark weird stuff on the other side of Bubblegum’s cheery demeanor, and in this episode, I think we really start to get to see it.

However, there’s a twist at the end of the episode, the princess acknowledges her past, and there’s a surprise for the Banana Guardsmen– who might be mistaken about Bubblegum’s true intentions.

A nice heartwarming lesson is presented: Always be humble, and wait until you know the full story before jumping to conclusions.
