Review: The Amazing World of Gumball “The Origins Pt. 1 and Pt. 2”
Spoilers Below
To help quell Gumball’s ADHD, his parents get him a goldfish. Gumball ends up killing the first fish, but after loving the peace and quiet that comes with it, the parents just keep bringing in new fish to keep Gumball’s attention fixated on anything else besides them. Richard ends up going through all of the goldfish at the pet store so he opts for Darwin from the back of a van. Right away Gumball and Darwin are best friends, especially when Gumball saves the little guy from being sent down the toilet like his predecessors…only to be flushed again.
Darwin’s in the ocean now and wants to get back to see Gumball who is just distraught over the situation. Fortunately, through the magic of evolution, Darwin is able to grow legs and make it almost all of the way back to seeing Gumball when he gets tranq’d by cricket and taken for a ride in a truck. While inside, Darwin gets the keys to the truck and is able to escape only to discover that Gumball’s family is at the pet store trying to get another fish. Not wanting to replace his best friend, Gumball turns down the fish and is reunited with Darwin.
Our Take
I don’t know why Cartoon Network felt the need to split this episode into two, but other than that the “Origins” saga is a bunch of fun. The first episode is a bit more crazy like a typical Gumball episode just minus the plethora of characters this show usually employs, and then the second part is more of the warrior’s tale that I was kind of looking for. While some of the episodes felt Finding Nemo inspired, overall, we get a rather awesome origin story on Darwin that hits you right in the feels.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
