Review: Star Wars Rebels – “The Call”
The Rebel Alliance’s fuel supply is quickly dwindling. As a result, the Ghost and her crew are on a mission to steal more. Unfortunately, this also means that the Ghost is low on fuel herself. Hera quickly redirects power to required areas as needed.
While on their way to the Mining Guild, the Ghost runs into a group of Purrgill. Purrgill, who look something like a cross between a whale and a squid, are quite dangerous, according to Hera. As a matter of fact, the Ghost keeps getting battered around by the creatures. At least until Ezra suggests they fly with the Purrgill instead of against them. Amazingly, their flight becomes much smoother.
A couple of TIE fighters appear, attempting to get rid of the Purrgill. Instead, they are destroyed by Kanan and Ezra. Sabine attempts to track where the fighters came from, in order to figure out where, exactly, the Guild lies. Unsurprisingly, the Purrgill are heading directly to the Guild.
Since the Ghost is low on power, Sabine, Ezra, and Kanan will have to jump down to the refinery to secure the landing platform. The Ghost will need to refuel before it can take off again. Facing off with the members of the Mining Guild, Ezra falls off the platform into the gas below. The Purrgill, who swim/fly around in the gas, save Ezra. Ezra and one of the Purrgill read each other’s minds and agree to join forces. Together with the Purrgill, the Rebels manage to fill the Ghost’s fuel tanks and destroy the refinery.
On their way home, the gang learns that the Purrgill breathe the deadly gas. They use it to fuel their journey around the universe. They also learn that the Purrgill can jump into hyperspace, even though they are creatures. Hera decides to follow them for awhile.
This was a really interesting episode. I don’t know that it progressed the overall plot of the show but it did give the Rebels a new ally, of sorts. Hopefully, the Purrgill will be useful to the Rebels in a later episode. It would suck to have these awesome creatures only appear in once. I want them to be a part of a giant Rebel Alliance. I doubt it will happen but I can dream, can’t I?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
