Review: American Dad! “The Life Aquatic with Steve Smith” (S13Ep02)

Pretty good new episode of American Dad! tonight with “The Life Aquatic with Steve Smith”. For some reason, I wasn’t expecting much out of this episode. However, there was a strong start with Steve and his friends (Toshi’s fluent Japanese despite his parents not even speaking it is a fantastic running gag) and Klaus and Steve Ratatouille-ing it up for water polo was an interesting main story.

Steve and Klaus have some hilarious one liners and such– Klaus dubs Steve’s shorts “The Boneyard” and Steve envies other guys’ “tit-eating grins”. Plus, you know, James Hetfield is Steve’s water polo coach, and there’s lots of old thrashy Metallica over the polo scenes for some reason. Weird, but definitely laugh out loud in many spots.

Everyone kind of has their place in this episode, and even though I wasn’t totally thrilled with the Roger and Stan side boat story, the fact that Jeff was actually back and around again was cool to see. Jeff is just a needed foil for Stan and Roger’s anger and schemes.
