Review: The Simpsons – “The Girl Code”
Spoilers Below
When Homer forgets his lunch at home, Marge has a vision of her beloved husband falling into a vat of nuclear waste due to hunger. Of course, this means she has to bring his lunch to him. While at the plant, Marge takes a few humorous selfies with Homer. She posts one of the pictures on social media, which gets Homer fired. As a result, Homer returns to the best job he ever had – a dishwasher at a Greek restaurant. During his time there, Homer starts to become Greek himself. He grows a thick mustache, hair on his chest, and starts dancing everywhere.
Due to her mother’s social media faux pas, Lisa is inspired to create an app that will predict the consequences of a social media post. Her (female) coding teacher recruits a few other female coders, plus Comic Book Guy as their token male, to make the app happen. The finished product is called Conrad, short for Consequences Erradicator. After successfully testing Conrad on Bart, the gang takes the app to the big app convention, where new apps debut. Unfortunately, Conrad has become sentient and starts begging Lisa not to release him. He doesn’t want to look at people’s terrible decisions every day. Lisa understands his dilemma and uploads him to the cloud, where he goes to WikiLeaks to hide. Before Conrad completely disappears, he finds some incriminating evidence relating to the nuclear plant and manages to get Homer’s job back.
I admit that it has been a long time since I’ve watched The Simpsons. Considering we’re in the 27th season, who can blame me for getting tired of the show after awhile? Thankfully, this episode did a good job of bringing me back into the fold. I’ve always had a soft spot for Lisa-centric episodes and this one was no different. Not only where there some actual chuckles that escaped my lips, there also were some very good character-driven moments. It’s nice to see that The Simpsons can still give us some good episodes after all these years.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
