Review: Adventure Time “President Porpoise is Missing!” (S7Ep18)
On the second new Adventure Time of the week, “President Porpoise is Missing!”, the show continues with its classic formula, as Finn and Jake go on an underwater adventure. BMO distracts Ice King with an imaginary submarine on shore, and as a whole, it probably stands up as a little better episode than the BMO-heavy one last night.
The episode begins with a TV announcement that President Porpoise is missing (hence the title) and Finn doesn’t know who he is (despite the fact that he’s a recurring character). It turns out that Jake Skypes with the President sometimes. When Finn and Jake leave their house, Bubblegum, Marceline and others come out from behind furniture to party.
Along for the adventure is Banana Man, a half-banana creature, who meets a half-fish creature underwater and goes off on that tangent as Finn and Jake try to get to the bottom of the President’s disappearance.
I felt like Finn not knowing of President Porpoise was kind of a reference to the election prep going on in our world currently, and since it’s a show for kids, maybe a statement on political awareness. Also, the episode hints at how Finn and Jake don’t work all that well with others– Banana Man seems relatively annoyed at their hijinks on the sub, even though it was a classic “Jake shrinking” kind of sequence.
Overall, an interesting episode with some good one-liners– including ones dealing with love, loneliness, and especially at the end, one that really shines a light on Finn and Jake’s brotherhood in the face of danger. I’m interested to tune in again tomorrow night.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
