Review: Adventure Time “Bad Jubies”

Tonight’s new Adventure Time episode, “Bad Jubies”, was hands-down my favorite episode of the week (so far).

The entire episode was done in stop-motion animation, including the title sequence, and it was visually stunning- I couldn’t help imagine how much more amazing the show would be if every episode was done in this style.

“Bad Jubies” centers around Finn, Jake, BMO and Lumpy Space Princess’ preparation for a coming storm. Jake is off a lot of times in the woods doing something mysterious for most of the duration of the others’ preparedness– the fruits of which he shows the group at the end, when the storm hits.

There are two musical sequences, of which Adventure Time episodes have their share– but these are instrumental only, no lyrics. I think that benefits the episode. Also, Jake is shown to again be the deep thinker of the pair, as the ending of the episode shows how it’s important to enjoy the little things– such as your surroundings, and nature.

The tornado as villain and the solution to the episode’s problem were at once brilliant, cute, and again, the stop motion really shines through it all– especially LSP. The is hilarious, she shines, and the very end is all her. Incredibly well-made.
