Review: Pig Goat Banana Cricket “Happy Chalawunga”
Spoilers Below
Pig searches the sewers for Filthy the Foot. Filthy is kinda the Santa Claus of Chalawunga, and Pig wants to prove that he’s real despite his roommates trying to tell him otherwise. When Filthy doesn’t show up in the morning, Pig heads into the sewers to go find him and actually does. Turns out that Filthy the Foot is out of commission due to injury and he needs Pig to help pick up the slack in delivering Sparkle Eggs using Filthy’s flying shoe sled.
Banana is forced to shop for Chalawunga gifts because he was the only one of the four to not GIVE gifts this holiday. As a result, Cricket and Goat keep Banana’s presents on lockdown until he makes good on presents. As a result, Banana heads to the mall, and instead of buying presents for other people, he just buys presents for himself. The Ghost of Chalawunga Future shows up and tells Banana to change his ways or he’s going to be alone in a cemetery with his shoes. Banana doesn’t seem to mind that, BUT he does get caught breaking store policy and sent to jail.
Goat wants to sing her song in the Chalawunga parade but no one else wants to hear it. Goat actually ends up attacking the girl that DOES get to sing there, but then turns into afloat. Goat’s song becomes a hit, but Pig shows up and ruined her balloon and gets thrown in jail with Banana. So, if you’re keeping track, we’ve got three of the principal characters in jail.
Cricket creates a foot for Pig named Mega Foot that terrorizes the downtown area and breaks out the others from jail. Filthy Foot shows up and decides to fight the big monster. Thanks to an ill-timed laser, Filthy Foot’s disease is cured, and he’s able to fight the robot, but he gets stomped on. Fortunately, Pig, Goat, Banana, Cricket show up and destroy the big bot and are able to celebrate the holidays the right way.
Our Take
Similar to what Sanjay and Craig did, the producers of Pig Goat Banana Cricket have crafted a new holiday that certainly derives from Santa lore. Sleighs and delivering gifts are all part of the game here, but with the way this show does it, it’s on another level.
Clearly it looks as though Nickelodeon did some post edits on this episode, as Pig was trying to crap out eggs and that somehow seemed to be an issue with the network. Personally, I think that’s the type of stuff that sets this show apart from the others on different networks…grossness. This show probably does it better than most, what with a parade singer being snotted out of an egg? Or how about the epic battle at the end that concluded Filthy’s hemorrhoids!
I give a lot of credit to the producers doing their best under circumstances that could be suffocating. But, if Nickelodeon really wants programming to set itself apart from the pack, it’s gonna have to start with stuff like this. Challenge the status quo, and you’ll get far.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
