The Muppets on ABC is all sorts of fucked right now
You would think that there were a lot of positives for The Muppets as of late, right? We told you guys about new episodes on the way, the show got nominated for a People’s Choice Award (more on that later) and even the latest ratings report from Deadline had noted the latest new episode stayed the same in the numbers:
The earlier part of ABC’s night saw everything stay the same with The Muppets (1.4/5)
SEE!?!
And then THIS happened. Turns out the new episodes ordered will be part of a reboot of The Muppets on ABC, with 10 episodes airing in the fall, and 6 more airing next year. Out goes showrunner Bob Kushell and expected to replace him is Kristin Newman. Evidently, the shakeup is due to creative differences on the back end, and these changes are expected to give the series new life. I guess despite the fact that the series has had decent ratings, the network expected better, and the show was rushed to series so there probably wasn’t a lot of time to come up with interesting ideas which would explain the up and down quality of the show (see our reviews).
In any case, we still have a few more episodes to air of The Muppets before the end of the year, and while it’s doubtful any of these changes will be evident from the get-go, next year could be a different story altogether.
The Muppets have Jason Batemen guest-starring next Tuesday Night only on ABC @ 8 pm ET/PT, get a first-look here.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
