Review: Regular Show “The Eileen Plan”
Spoilers Below
Everyone tells embarrassing secrets, and Eileen’s is that she had made a plan back in the 6th grade to one day become President of the United States. This causes Rigby to worry that he isn’t smart enough to be Eileen’s boyfriend so he decides to go back to school and finish out his credits. His first-class is a Geology class in which Rigby feels really out of sort being surrounded by younger jocks, but he’s doing it for Eileen. Unfortunately, the classes are starting to conflict with his schedule as he blows off Eileen one night, and then on the night of a big dance, Rigby has to go on a field trip to a cave. Not believing Mordecai’s made-up story that Rigby is sick, Eileen heads to the cave and finds Rigby with the jocks. Naturally, she thinks that Rigby lied to hang out with friends, when in fact this could not be further from the truth. Eileen takes off distressed and falls down a hole in the cave leaving Rigby to go after her. The two settle their differences, and Rigby’s class training aids in the lovebirds escaping off into the sunset.
Our Take
Unlike Mordecai/CJ/Margaret, I don’t think the same attention has been made by the producers of Regular Show to consider the relationship between Rigby and Eileen serious, but this may have been the first time we see that. Also, anyone who hasn’t seen Regular Show The Movie should know that this episode dances around major plot points of the movie, so if you haven’t seen the movie, this episode is a great segue. If you HAVE seen the movie, this should help fill in more back story as it did for me. I won’t point out specific instances as I don’t want to ruin it for the people who haven’t seen the movie yet, but the plot points are rather apparent.
In any case, with the weight of two major Regular Show arcs on its shoulders, it would have been easy to say this one could buckle under the pressure, but that isn’t the case. Instead, we get rather standard Regular Show, though if you are a fan of the supernatural elements this one isn’t going to do much for you. But, if you plan on watching Regular Show the Movie, then this becomes required reading.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
