Review: Pig Goat Banana Cricket “Underpants-Palooza”

Spoilers Below

Pig’s folks visit the gang and Pig lied his ass off and his friends have to pay the price. Banana is a pet monkey, Goat is Pig’s wife, and Cricket is Pig’s butler. Later, the Pigs want to go to an Underpants-Palooza of which his parents thing Pig is the star. Pig is actually allergic to underpants, but he sneaks backstage at the event and pretends that he really is a model only to see his allergies go out of control. The Clam tells Pig’s parents the truth, and as it turns out, Pig’s dad is a liar.  Gooch hits us with a commercial before we see Goat getting her own reality show.

Turns out she’s been a reality start for a city filled with gnome-like dumbles. The dumbles ask Goat to be crazier to which she totally obliges. It goes Ok for a bit, but for the finale the dumbles want her to kick out his friends and she fights back and says no. Gooch ends up being the new star anyway.

Cricket uses science to increase his appeal to Goat after reading her diary and finding out that she really likes this boy band’s looks. Despite the fact that everyone in town wants in on Cricket, Goat isn’t impressed and it’s really her sister that is a fan of the band.

Banana frightens his Junior Rangers with a classic monster that is long retired and now baking cookies and serving cocoa. Turns out calling it a wimp reverses this and it causes the monster to go on a rampage. The other housemates show up and help make it cry, but the Clam shows up and offers the monster a modelling contract.

Our Take

I love Gooch, I hope we see more of him. I actually wouldn’t have minded if this show was like a sketch show, and it showcased more of a variety of characters and sketches because I feel like these producers would have a lot of them.

In any case, I think this week’s episode seemed rather forced. The good episodes of this show are the ones that show some sort of thread of continuity between the four parts of the show only to wrap them up at the end. Instead, it seemed like everyone’s bit kind of started over whatever happened before, then when we got to the end, it was more or less the free-for-all we were expecting. Also, the downside to having Gooch, the other four parts featuring the characters certainly become a tad shorter, and I think NOT having Gooch would have allowed for those threads to build a little more and give us a more proper episode.

That’s also not to say this week didn’t have its humorous moments. The little gnomes terrorizing Goat were hilarious, Pig’s underwear havoc was disturbing, and the monster in Banana’s bit was so much fun. But, I’m not sure if there was enough time to really get some good jokes in.
