Review: Mike Tyson Mysteries “For the Troops”

Ready for battle.

Spoilers Below

This week, Mike Tyson is invited to entertain the troops in place of Wayne Brady on a trip to Afghanistan. Naturally, Mike thinks this means he’ll have to do improv for the troops, but once he gets out there, only Marquess opts to join him on stage for an act that goes horribly wrong. Turns out, Mike Tyson has a case of stage fright. Fortunately, the power is cut in the nick of time, and the crew heads back home.

Meanwhile, Deezy was left behind to watch over Mike’s house. As luck would have it, he gets a mystery to investigate a mummy haunting going down at a local museum. Scared for his life, Deezy would end up hiding instead of actually cracking the case, and all attempts by him to call up Mike Tyson are in vain.

Our Take

Mike Tyson in Afghanistan must have money written all over it. Can you imagine if this crew were to solve mysteries in one of the most violent countries on the planet? What if all this time Mike actually was the one who found Osama Bin Laden?

In any case, Yung has officially graduated to the class of Meg, and I’m glad for it. Usually it seemed like she just sort of tagged along and complained, so moving forward I hope more insults are sent Yung’s way. Marquess was pretty funny in his live-stage improv with Mike, and I was actually looking forward to seeing the sketch play out, alas the always reliable electricity of a third-world country didn’t agree. Pigeon’s directorial efforts were hilarious, but he kind of tapered off towards the end in terms of value to the episode.

And last, but not least, Mike Tyson. Mike had a number of one-liners that I didn’t think I’d hear in my lifetime like when he aptly renames Who’s Line Is It Anyway? to Who the Fuck’s Line Is It? Also, his adoration of Wayne Brady was a sight to behold. In the future, I would’ve liked to have seen a bit more of Deezy taking on the mystery at hand, but overall I was happy the troops got a good performance.
