There’s a riot going on in the school…but why?

Mitchell agrees to give Kirby time to work on his own animated creations during independent study in exchange for the copyrights leaving Mitchell to do whatever he wants with Kirby’s shit. The rest of the school finds out about it and begins to turn on Kirby when his cartoons are used in Mitchell’s campaigning for shorter lunches and whatnot.

Eventually, Mitchell convinces Kirby to draw a cartoon inspired by him which draws the last straw for Kirby, so he opts to fight back. Kirby starts tagging Mitchell’s posters which incites a riot and causes Mitchell to worry because the Superintendent is on the way to make a decision as to whether or not to shut down Forest Hills High.

Kirby and Mitchell devise a plan that inspires the class to clean up the school and set everything back to normal. The Superintendent shows up and we find out that he’s actually Mitchell’s dad. But, just as it seems like this dude is going to shut everything down, Fish gives him a stress ball and the old guy changes his mind.

Eli is pretending to be a newsman and Fish is insane over a stress ball. Apparently, Fish can’t open anything because his grip is weak so he uses the stress ball to try and gain strength which he does hence him giving the Superintendent the ball. Eli stole a mug from the local news anchor and the anchor shows up to the school to get it back and pretty much tell Eli to fuck off.

Dawn’s adopted hallway is turning to shit after she doesn’t even bother caring for it. During Kirby’s cleanse, Dawn gets the hallway back to normal and protects it from any further damage. Despite all this, the Superintendent admonishes her hard work and instead Mitchell gives her a bathroom to adopt.

Our Take

Kirby and Dawn had fun things to do this week, but sometimes I think Eli and Fish just get in the way. Episodes like this, they literally just become an annoyance and a dumb deviation from the good stuff at hand. And while Kirby signing over his rights to the cartoons is totally not believable (Kirby would have to be 18 to be able to sign over anything, or have a parent co-sign), I still had a lot of fun watching the school be nearly condemned. The reasoning for the Superintendent not ending the school was lame, and it even looked like the last scene with Mitchell, SI, and Dawn was not needed or edited out of place because at that juncture we knew that the school was fine.

In any case, there were some good laughs to be had. I love Kirby’s sarcastic looks whenever he has to read something ridiculous, and he’s also good at whining. Mitchell’s Superintendent cohort is almost as ridiculous as he is, and Mitchell by himself is usually my favorite character. The producers just have to learn how to do without, and concentrate on the meat and potatoes and not worry about ancillary characters all the time.
