Review: Gravity Falls – “Weirdmageddon 2: Escape From Reality”
Spoilers Below
Bill, still celebrating with his minions, has decided that it is time to take over the rest of the world. However, when they try to fly away, the creatures run straight into an invisible bubble surrounding the town. Angry at this new revelation, Bill debates waking Ford from his statue state in order to find a way out of the bubble.
Most of the episode was spend with Dipper, Wendy, and Soos. The three friends managed to get inside Mabel’s prison bubble. Once there, though, they find that it is filled with bright rainbows, sparkles, music, and fun. All of the things Mabel loves. After a quick tour from two 80s-looking pretty boys, the group is taken to Mabel’s castle, where she is sleeping on the top floor. When she wakes up, Dipper tries to convince her to go back to reality. But Mabel doesn’t want to go back. She can get everything she ever wanted in Mabeland, even a more supportive Dipper. Mabel tries to convince everyone else to stay by giving them what they’ve always wanted. Wendy’s friends show up to prank the high school with her and Soos’ absent father shows up as a luchador. They rush off to fulfill their dreams, leaving Dipper to deal with Mabel alone. Dipper, however, refuses to fall for Mabel’s tricks.
As Dipper hangs out at the riverbank by himself, trying to figure out how to convince Mabel to return to reality with him, Wendy randomly stops by. She tells Dipper how wonderful he is and that they could be together if Dipper were older. Perhaps Mabel could change Dipper’s age. That is when Dipper realizes that this is not the real Wendy. He tells this Wendy that she is not real and he is promptly arrested by the Waffle Guards. It turns out that it is against the rules to talk about reality. Now they have to have a trial.
In the courtroom, Dipper faces off against Mabel, who is represented by the two 80s guys from the tour. The guys use Mabel’s scrapbook to point out how awful reality has been to her. Meow Meow Judge tries to get the jury full of Mabels to render a verdict against Dipper when he points out that he has not defended himself. Dipper calls Mabel as a witness and uses her scrapbook to show the end of the terrible stories. The twins have always been there for each other. No matter how bad things got, they were always able to pull through thanks to the love and support of the other. Dipper promises to give up his apprenticeship with Ford in order to stay with Mabel forever. The twins hug and Mabel’s prison bubble begins to collapse.
All of the imaginary beings inside the bubble turn into monsters and start chasing the friends. Mabel leads everyone onto the back of a huge Waddles, who rides them out of the bubble. Once they are back in the real world, Mabel realizes how bad the world has gotten. The group decides to try to hide out in the Mystery Shack but there are strange sounds coming from inside. With everyone armed with a variety of weapons, Dipper kicks in the door. Inside, they find Grunkle Stan and a handful of townspeople…and some monsters? It’s a little confusing to figure out who Stan is with.
I think everyone knew that Mabel’s brain was filled with unicorns and rainbows. It was strange seeing them as actual beings though. Having the Fantasy vs Reality trial was interesting. However, fantasy never really factored into it. The entire trial was basically “Reality sucks so we shouldn’t participate in it.” It’s something that everyone has to face at some time in their lives, even Dipper and Mabel. I’m glad the twins made up and got back together. I don’t think either of them could fight Bill alone. It will take both of them to overcome his evilness. I’m just not sure how they can accomplish it.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
