Review: Adventure Time “Cherry Cream Soda”
Spoilers Below
After a great showing in “Varmints”, Adventure Time kind of fumbled the ball last night with “Cherry Cream Soda”. It had a rad concept and a great look into the gritty aftermath of Bonnibel stepping down as princess, but the episode didn’t commit to being funny, or scary, or dark. It just fell flat.
Candy-zombies, a failing marriage, the trauma of a broken heart, Jake and a unicorn hanging at a run-down candy bar with a candy-zombie… how could all these things not add up to something epic? Beats me, but Episode 3 of Season 7 doesn’t put them together well.
I wish I could say, “but it’s still worth watching.” I wish, but the frustration of potential radness not recognized definitely outweighs the entertaining and informing bits– like a character, nay hero, is brought back to life.
Adventure Time’s crew mastered the art of the short story a long time ago, but they didn’t display it in the 12-minute “Cherry Cream Soda”.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
