Season One Review: Vixen
Spoilers Below
The one major thing that I was happy about when it came to Vixen, is that the producers could’ve very easily used this as an opportunity to just whore out The Flash, Arrow, and whatever else superhero TV shows that are coming along the way on CW, all during the show and I’m sure there are media outlets that would’ve been just fine with that.
Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. While Flash and Arrow did cameo during the course of the series, I was more impressed with the breadth of back story that we got for Mari McCabe in her transition to being Vixen. And for a short web series, the level of production quality for the show is just off the charts. A darkened Detroit is quite clearly the most terrifying setting in the history of the DC Animated Universe since Batman: The Animated Series’ Gotham City. Unfortunately, I don’t know if we really got to take advantage of a lot of it, because definitely towards the latter episodes of 4 and 5, we got a strong pivot into what became the inevitable clash between Mari and her sister. As exciting as the finish for the series was, I couldn’t help but feel the overall aesthetic of Detroit was wasted in favor of what we got.
Even with those minor gripes, CW Seed MIGHT just be able to eek out best web series of the year, but due to the aforementioned episodes, it got a lot more difficult.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
